B30E or F?
In my last thread I posted the lastest with my 164. After doing some perusing for parts online, I noticed that everything is listed as B30E. Will B30E parts bolt right on to the B30F? Also, what are the primary differences between the two engines? I searched the forums but didn't come up with anything.

The B30 F is a low comporession version for low grade fuel , the mecnanical bits and pieces would be the same depending on what you need .

The headhight, measured between head joint face and face for bolt heads, from a F is 3.42" (87mm) a E is 3.34"(84.9mm), the headgasket for a F is thicker as for an E to reduce compression ratio from 1:9.5 E to 1:8.7 F. The only other differences are the MAP sensor, the ECU and the distributor which have a slightly different centrifugal advance curve. All the other parts are the same.

E and F similarity
No knowledge on the 3 liter engines, but with the B20E and F, a lot of parts were different originally. At least they had different numbers. Nowadays, replacement parts can be interchanged. The differences must be small. I am using a MAP from a 164 in my 144...

The maps from the 140 B20F and the B30F are the same, see list:
MAP sensors types with Bosch part#. But most are interchangeable, indeed small differences between the various types. I think best is not to interchange between E&F. 0 280 100 010 1970 1800E (4 speed) 0 280 100 015 1971 1800E 0 280 100 035 All injected 1972 Volvo 140 models (with B20F engine) All 1972, 1973, and 1974 Volvo 164 models (with B30F engine) All 1972 Volvo 1800E and 1800ES models (B20F engine 4 Speed and Auto) (Compression lowered to 8.7 to 1) 0 280 100 053 1973 and 1974 164 is (with automatic transmission) 0 280 100 054 1973 140 series and 1800ES (B20F 4 Speed and Auto) 0 280 100 059 1975 164 is (with automatic transmission) 0 280 100 066 1975 164 is (manual trans) --

I always thought that too, like the B20E may be different in different markets though ..
