Default Front Spring Seat (V50)

Took my V50 in for a free health check at the dealer and it was noted that the front offside spring is not seated in the cup properly.

It’s had new springs recently before my ownership.

Any thoughts? Got a warranty with the car so can hopefully claim on that and get the job sorted.

(Edit, I should add it drives OK, but it was pointed out they are not Volvo springs and hence they are not sitting as flush as they should do in the cup).

Use Google. But tbh if they are the wrong springs you should go back to the garage and have it rectified under warranty. After market parts is one thing. Incorrectly specified parts that don't fit is something else altogether. If the spring is able to move in the seat, likely the whole strut assembly isnt aligned quite right. even if it drives okay it could be putting incorrect/imbalanced pressure on other parts of the strut assembly, meaning your top mounts or other bits may fail prematurely.

I fitted aftermarket bilstein shocks and eibach springs. All fit together like a glove, nice and tight no play in top mounts or spring seats.

Having said all this, can you provide a picture? I assume they are talking about the bottom spring seat on the strut? Could just be an incorrectly installed spring

Thanks for the feedback. Can’t take the car back to the garage as it was done in Scotland before my ownership and I am in Yorkshire.

I have attached two pics. The first pic, the end of the spring should apparently be further round into the notch in the cup. The second pic shows the spring apparently seated correctly but the spring gap is small.

In summary they are both in the cup but apparently not seated quite right.

The dealer quoted £224+VAT to investigate so I’d rather just leave them if it’s nothing to be concerned about.

yep, looks like whoever installed those springs didn't assemble the strut correctly. Was the car on the flat and level? Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can comment, but The second picture seems to show the first and second spring coils very close together, doesn't look right to me. Id measure ride hight on that corner, check its not low. I worry that spring may be failing/snapped... But I could be wayyy off the mark so don't let me worry you, maybe someone else can comment. edit... scratch that, I think its just the camera angle

Just by way of an update, I took this to my local trusted garage and they said this is no problem at all.
