c30 2l petrol. Oil level reading
2l petrol duratec engine c30.
Had an oil change at last service. Done about 6k miles since. After oil change I think I remember checking with engine cold and oil level was half to three quarters up the dipstick indicator. I just checked and it's just above the minimum mark. checked in morning with engine cold. Wiped and reinserted dipstick to get reading. Engine oil still looked pretty golden and clean. Coolant still good, no gunk inside oil cap. no smoke when driving. Looking inside the oil cap, when cold, can see the rockers.. in top of engine still nicely covered in oil. So, what is the amount of oil between Max and Min mark on the dipstick? It looks like the engine may be using a small amount, but I'd need to do a top up, check when cold, check again test to be sure. At what level of consumption do I have to think about the PCV and the bastard job of removing inlet to get to it |

I think it's 0.75l between MIN and MAX.

When I checked stone cold. Oil was at min mark.. When doing as volvo suggested... Bang in middle of dipstick mark. I was always told to check when cold so all the oil is in the sump and then you get an accurate reading. It looks like if I followed this for the 2l duratec I could have over filled... baffling to me but I guess it's good, my engine is using no oil, in 6k miles and it has 85k on clock... pretty good. Anyone else had thoughts on this, checking when warm seems so counter intuitive for me, unless car been sitting a long long time and oil has congealed or something. |

I tend to check mine when cold and also about half an hour after a decent run. Doesn't tend to vary much.
