Default V70: Fuel flap door stuck shut after battery disconnect.

After pulling the battery to replace the fuel pump in the old mans v70 d5. The fuel flap will no longer release.
Does this need resetting? I've read, that it may be stuck in valet mode, tried pulling the 1st fuse in the rear holder. Locking the car for a few mins, a few hours, Nothing. It was ok before the battery was disconnected.
I need to leak check the tank prior to handing the car back to the old man...

the fuel flap door can be released from inside the car via the removable panel in the boot

Usually the small motor inside the actuator goes bad or its small contacts get loose.
See this https://youtu.be/kIn0_gOXWLY to release the fuel door manually on the V70/XC70

So I got it working. Pulled the side panel off to get at the motor.
Pulled the negative on the battery and reconnected it. As I did the motor 'kicked' closed, right to its limit. Tried to unlock it, nothing, however there was a very small movement when I pressed unlock.

I pushed the arm maybe 1mm inwards, tried again and it worked!
Assisted it a few times and now it works every time. It must be every time the battery gets reconnected, it must send a little pulse to the motor, to push its arm past its limit. I'll see how it goes for a while, if the motor is stuffed, I might just disconnect it in the open position and buy a locking cap.

Must admit, trim pulls off a lot easier than the 700/900`s. I'm a veteran of those. These p2 v70s are a new challenge for me!

No, just reconnected it. Spoke to a few people regarding the destruction of various things when batteries get reconnected on these, they've just told me to connect up, make sure doors are open etc... Batteries been off a few times today, climate control still works.

What happens is inside the small electric motor, there are two small metal connectors that are only secured by metal clips - these clips get weaker overtime and the two conectors start making intermittent contact. May try to open the unit and use some glue to secure the two connectors to the motor. Mind you, the motor also fails at some point, and the plastic gears may also get damaged. New unit is not cheap.

This looks like an application for a sheathed cable instead of "an electric motor".
When mine goes, the door gets a magnet and I buy a locking gas cap.

Well, tried today, motors stuffed, I opened it, and disconnected it. That's how it shall remain.

Will that pass inspection?
NCT people here can be picky about non locking tanks.
