2008 C70 D5 Engine Squeal
Wondering can someone help. I've had a squealing alternator/power steering belt sound on damp or wet morning startups for a few years. In fact for quite a few years and the concern over the auxillary belt snapping meant I had the all the belts changed early at around 90,000 miles. The squealing stopped for about 6 months but returned. The squealing has always cleared within a minute or so of starting up, except for yesterday. It continued for a journey of about 20 minutes. Reading up about it, it seems two possible causes which could either be the PCV diaphragm or alternator clutch pulley. The PCV diaphragm test of removing the oil filler cap seems to prove its not that, and I can push the alternator rotor shaft clockwise through the casing but not anti-clockwise showing the clutch mechanism seems to be ok and there is no wobble on the pulley.
The noise seems to be centred around the alternator so the clutch pulley still seems the most likely cause, but seems to be in reasonble condition and working as it should. Does anyone have experience on this and can help?
Cheers Ian
