Wink Newbie Saying a BIG Hello to all and a couple of questions.

Hi All,
As above a BIG hello and can i first say what a brilliant and informative site this looks i am an XC90 virgin and my second only Volvo my previous a 480 turbo auto. I have owned many 4x4s over the years but all Range Rovers and and V8 Rovers but enough of that. I have just bought an 03 68k miles on clock one owner XC90 2.4 D5se Geartronic £18k and collect it Saturday god i can,t wait Please tell me i have paid the right price as i have searched and searched and this was the lowest miles for the price it is in near mint condition and drives beautifully The garage i bought it of let me have it for two hours for a test drive so by the time i got back from my 60 mile journey me and the missus was smitten. I could not believe how quiet it was for a diesel and how the speed creeps up om you on the motorway the only thing that did concern me was the steering tries to correct it'self when taking bends is this a fault or shoul it do that? Any advice on the XC90 would be very very much appreciated from all you knowledgables out the ie are these cars easy to maintain and service as i do all my own thanks in anticipation

Hope so mate BUT i have only had the car a few days and have had an anti skid service warning on the dash so took it to Volvo they diagnosed 6 faults. Ie yaw sensors etc etc which sound expensive but the dealer will be paying for that lot not me i just hope i haven't bought a lemon god come back my old Range Rover all is forgiven He also said the steering fault maybe due to the anti skid fault god it's all foriegn to me will keep you posted where are the other xc90 owners with there opinions come on speak up

Hi,

All I can tell you is that tyre wear seems to be high (13500 for first replacements on the front), my dealer is charging £350 for the first service and I average 27mpg (D5 185 Auto) in mixed driving.

Also, I have had to have 2 pieces of trim fixed, my computer is optimistic on the MPG is shows (10% above reality) and the dealer can't find a problem with it and the tracking was out after 6 months of ownership.

On the up side, the car looks great, drives great, isn't too slow, has a nice stereo, can transport many dirty kids and sports equipment and has a good number of toys included !!!

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the reply i have let the dealer have it back today he can sort it all you say your 185 does 27mpg average mixed driving. I am hoping my 163 does a bit more than that on a loooonng run as i have a cararvan sited in Devon 200mile run from Brum i am hoping to break the 30mpg @70mphish I am going down to the van in March to give it a good test hopefully the car will be sorted by then or it's trading standards jobby me thinks Must admit the little time i have had the car i have never felt so safe in a car/suv and it's such a quiet car unbelivable really but i do miss my centre arm rest out of my Range Rover though oh well can't have it all i suppose

You'll get way more than 27mpg out of the 163 on a long run.
I'm running a '55' plate Ocean Race 163bhp.
At the moment averaging 26mpg, mostly town stuff, odd 2 junction motorway hop.
Did a 20 mile run down M-way last week, averaged 37mpg with careful right foot, 33mpg on cruise.
Anything above 70-75mph and the fuel consumption goes up quick..
