The 2.4i will be cheaper but quite possibly rarer still than a T5.

The biggest issue with a 2.4i is that it's fuel economy is about the same if not slightly worse than a T5, it's considerably slower due to the loss of 50hp, torque and the turbo and I'm sure it was only available with geartronic 5 speed automatic transmission if memory serves me correctly. Those reasons meant it didn't exactly sell like hot cakes.

On the plus side it's a smooth 5 cylinder engine and a decent long distance cruiser.

Thnaks - I am find there's more 2.4 around than T5's, but starting to re-address what the "needs" are for the car rather than just going for a bigger engine :-)

My mate had an S40 2.0D and (short of a D5) this would be my next choice after the T5 rather than a 2.4i. The torque of the 2.0D engine makes it quite a punchy engine and feels fairly rapid. 2.4i likely to feel a bit lethargic. Also, when I was looking for T5, there were LOADS of V50 2.0D sports around and within budget (but for me it had to be a T5 ).

I do wish someone would buy a 2.4i for the sake of owning a nice car. You get 170bhp, 5 cylinders plus a nice 2.4 badge on the back.

0-60mph in 7.5 seconds (Manual). You're still going to be faster than the average joe.
