n/s Outer Edge Tyre Wear
I have discovered outer edge tyre wear on my near side rear tyre, possible defects from similar forumn threads suggest - worn bushes or ball joints.
What is the best solution to cure this and cost estimates would be appreciated? My car is due to have a pre-mot inspection shortly and i would welcome advice |

I had to replace my rear lower 'stays' as my N/S rear tyre was 'crabbing' and wearing. Be worth going around all the sussy parts looking for play and finish with a 4-wheel alignment session.

Dear johnjb,
Similar finding here. My V50 (2006 reg) was recommended to have four new tyres November 2011 service. Four Pirellis. After one year and only about 7,000 miles, the out edges of all four tyres have worn by 2 mm so now down to 5 mm on all outside edges with the front two outers at already down to 4, whilst middles 6. This was raised at the November 2012 service check out this week, with reason for front wear put down to tracking out due top knock on kerb or the like. But all tracking was done last year with the four new tyres and with only 7,000 miles and only me driving, there has not been any such jolt to the front tyres that raised a suspicion with me that the tracking would need re-adjusting. I am pretty ok with cars for an amateur (and did put a kit car together some years ago). This outer wear is so far unexplained fully in my view. I am looking at driving style and driving type. I am a slow to moderate driver around town, on national speed limit roads possibly accelerating into the curves for control and speed which could be a relevant factor in front tyre outer wear. Driving type is mainly urban with 30% motorway. The other possibility is inaccurate measuring during the service. the brake pad wear this year has come back as the same as November 2011 ie no brake pad wear during the year! Driving style is generally little braking, but no wear at all?! Any ideas? |

hmm you will see some wear depending on the exact tyre but tbh i have seen more wear on the inner edge rather than the outer.

The N/S/R tyre wear appears to be a common fault on nearly all cars. I have always put it down to rounderbouts causing MOST wear, due to a tighter bend........ But this is only my opinion
