I suggest you get to someone with Vida/DiCE and look to see what codes are set. What signals are or are not present. I had coolant and turbo control valve signal errors, all of which I cleared before replacing the radiator fan controller/relay. None of the faults returned. Constant running of the rad fan is well documented fault on other Volvo forums.
I had the opposite problem with my radiator fan - no fan at all - on XC70 with climate control. The fan control is not just regulated by the coolant temperature but by the air con (the rad fan is set to run slowly when the air con is running) and the turbo control valve/boost pressure regulator which are all controlled by the ECU. I opened up the Bosch radiator control fan which is a unit mounted close to the fan on the fan shroud. It is shown in the wiring diagrams as containing two transistorised circuits controlling slow and fast running speeds. In actual fact this is just a highly simplified schematic as the controller actually contains around twenty transistors, some of them high power FETs and scores of resistors and capacitors. In the case of my particular controller a short had occurred on the circuit board and vaporised at lest three capacitors. |

I have an 04 S60, fan was running all the time, garage managed to get it off, but it started running all the time again.
Research on here pointed me to low aircon gas. I got it recharged and the fan seems to have gone off. It's only been a few days, but seems to have fixed it. |

Just an update to my problem, I had a re-gas and it seemed alright for a few days then it started again so i took it back to my local indie (readview ) and they came up with a leaking condenser. A new condenser and re-gas £390 and everything has been alright since the beginning of July.Thank's for all the reply's.

fan still running! !!
I had 2.0 litre S40 that stayed on but only after I'd started having problems with air flow meter. As soon as I replaced that, the fan behaved itself.
Now got S60. Fan stays running but only for about two minutes. Just had A/C pump replaced but not wired in therefore bypassing AC system. Expensive way of doing it but two pumps had seized due to lack of voltage to the pump (that's what the garage said anyway) I wasn't prepared to try another at £150 a go. |
