S60 Brakes: Hnadbrake cable

How do I disconnect the handbrake cable from the wheel on my s60? I think the cable has seized. It is the o/s rear. Grateful for any help

The parking brake pads delaminate from the backing metal. If a piece of the pad becomes wedged in the parking brake assembly, the wheel will drag or lock up. Happened to me. I removed the brake caliber, then the rotor disk and the parking brake pieces fell out. The other side was just a bad. Parking brake pad replacement is easy. I used Volvo blue box parts from China! Suggest new spring hardware be used. YouTube has instructions.

Get the discs off and remove the shoes. Replace them if they are more than four years old.
What makes you think the cable may have seized? As bugeye said the shoes have a tendancy to lock things up in there. Any funny handbrake behaviour lately like clunks reversing from parked or increased travel?

I'll abbreviate:
Have a helper at the ready so the cable can be pulled alternatively from both ends.

Slacken the parking brake cable at the hand lever. Do not remove the 10mm adjusting nut.
Remove wheel(s), caliper(s), rotor(s).

See if you can get a grip on the cable itself and go through a cycle of pulling with your helper to determine if the cable is indeed rusted-to-stillness.
Shoe and hardware removal might be necessary (if you can't get to the cable).
The swag at the end of the cable merely lays in position in the brake shoe expander.

If you get this far, you'll see what's involved. You need to remove the rotors to inspect the shoes' condition anyway.
