Default Selling Advice

Hey folks,

It's been a long time since I posted on here, but it looks like I am going to have to part, rather reluctantly, with my '71 144.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on where to sell? Is Car and Classic or Ebay the way to go?

Thanks for any advice.

Rich

Sorry I cannot answer your question, but I do hope you do not mind me adding to your post.
I have been days now considering writing a similar one, as I also do not know what to do.
Do to poor health I need to sell my 1972 164 (and maybe my 19711800E).
It is 35 years since I have advertised a car for sale so advice needed.

Hello Jonathan

Messaging here as, over the weekend, my email identity has been "stolen". Yes, I know it sounds odd, but my server Tesco is selling out to Talktalk (we knew that) and last Thursday a letter from them confirmed dates and that I need do nothing if I wanted to stay. Then I got an email from the Tesco Help Desk saying they wanted me to confirm my email address plus password and phone number - and it suddenly went quiet.
I didn't get back from my sons until last night and found a Korean (!) hacker had stolen then blanked my identity. Obviously after my bank details so they could clear me out, so I rang both..... Fortunately any action they might do couldn't (acc. to them) mean any money theft as I had never done other than bank-to-bank transfers on the computer, but I stopped all outgoings for now anyway. Just waiting for the true Tesco support people now, which Audrey Old is doing for me; she is on audakt@tesco.net if contact urgent.

re your car, I saw Sam from "Practical Classics" at the NEC, but although keen on getting a 164 he said it HAS to have a manual gearbox. I have another guy in Durham (!) who wants a 164 seat and panel, and will be mailing him from Audrey's place on Thursday (he wants a pic or two of one of my cars), so will ask him if yours is of interest to him.

So despite hiccup on computer, we are still here and functioning - just! If reply needed, try a PM on Forums: I think that is still OK (for now).

Stay warm!

Paul

Ebay used to be a good way to achieve the market value for your car (especially if you were not sure what that was before advertising) but their auction costs have gone up a lot in recent years and of course you won't know how much you will pay until the final price is reached. Their Paypal system has also become expensive to use and sorting out disputes is difficult because theres no one you can actually talk to.
I would advertise on here if I were you and if no luck try the classic web sites or even Gumtree - a lot of people are moving back to that from e-bay nowadays.

Default car advert

I have just sold my 72 144 through car and classic website.
It took about 3 weeks as it is in mint condition and I was not giving it away.
I also put it on ebay as a classified advert it cost £15 and It had over 3000 viewers and 120 watchers, but the only people who called me were idiots with no money or wanted to part ex for a rusty Astra.
So I would go with the specialist classic web pages . they are free and it stays on there until its sold.
Make sure you have some good pictures and give as much history and information as you can no matter how trivial.
Good luck

Well thanks guys, I have now (sadly) listed it on Car and Classic..

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C691060#

So we'll see what happens, I really had no idea what it was worth at all.

But if anyone is interested I'm more than happy to talk about the car at length.
