Default Will 16" steel wheels clear front discs & calipers

Hi there, just a quick query as I am looking for a set of wheels to put winter boots onto for the wife's car. Cannot seem to get any definitive information from the dealer and the manual is completely useless.
Car is 2005 T5 V50 auto. On the tyres pressure label it does state sizes for 16" wheels/tyres ( car is currently on 17s) so I thought it would be ok but the dealer seems to be under the impression that the front brake discs are actually 16.5" !
This is all very confusing and a completely different experience from when I put winter boots on my old V70 - I just looked it all up in the manual and it was all there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - also I am assuming that this car has the standard 52.5mm offsets as the dealer could not confirm this either.

Hi,

Try this site:

http://www.wheelfitment.eu/

Enter your vehicle details, and it will list the dimensions required.
It will also list other wheels that will fit (Volvo and other makes - Ford for example), you'll be surprised how many wheels are compatible, so maybe a cheap set of alloys from Fleabay may be an option.

Hope it helps

Steve

Depends if you have 300mm or 320mm front brake discs. If they are 300mm you'll be fine with 16" wheels as I understand it. If you have 320mm then 17" is as small as you're supposed to go.

t5's are usually 320 so gut says no if you have the smaller discs then yes they should.

I have 320 mm brakes and I use 16'' steel wheels. They are absolutely fine with around 6 mm clearance.

I can answer this one as I currently have a V50 T5 and 320mm discs.

Basically my normal alloys with summer tyres are 17" and of course these are fine with the 320mm callipers as we all already know.

I purchased a set of Convector alloys last year from Johnsons Volvo but at the time never gave a thought to the huge callipers - luckily enough the 16" Convector alloys fit JUST!! I took pictures last year and will see if I still have them.

If your car came with a tempra spare then this is also a 16" rim so my best guess is that any OEM 16" alloy will be fine with the 320mm discs and callipers, I wouldn't like to say for 3rd party wheels though.

Well thanks for all your swift replies guys. I definitely have got the 320mm discs on that car as I have just got home and measured them.
Am I correct in assuming that I may have more caliper clearance with the steel wheels than with alloys if I went for the 16s - I am going on the theory that the alloy will be thicker?? Or maybe it's just me being thick!
Any replies greatly appreciated - I was looking to buy complete wheel and tyre set from my tyres but now not so sure.

No joke! I can see why Volvo advise against it.

Not all T5s have 320mm discs. My 2004 T5 is 300mm more's the pity.
