Default Finally got a D5 after 6 classics, just a few questions

Well i have finally got a D5 old, high mileage, but i love it! its on a 2003, done 212k, has a good service history, its an auto that i need now that my disability is getting worse, and its an SE!

Now being an SE, it has the usual toys, electric seats with memory, cruise control, lovely leather on really good condition, but alas no heated seats? now that was a surprise nor does it have headlamp washers which i thought came with an SE?

I have had a look under the seats and yes there is a whole host of wiring, i wonder if the heated pads are in the seats but the necessary switches and relay missing, can anyone explain this, i have a really bad spinal injury and had found on some of the classics that i have owned that the heated seats helped me on a long journey!

The auto box is quite good not as smooth as the last classic 4 speed but that box was really fabulous, so maybe not fair to compare, again advice needed would a fluid change help it, how easy and expensive is the fluid? and can i do it at home, or is it a ramp job?

Loads of questions i really do appreciate any help or advice offered, oh its the later variant of the 70 with the chrome rings around the dials if that helps?
Once again many thanks to all you clever people.

my s60 se sounds the same as yours, no heated seats and no headlamp washers this is a 2007 model, on my 2004 v70 which is a sport model it has heated seats but no headlamp washers. so my thinking was it must be part of the winter pack that you get heated seats which is an extra??

Yep, the heated seats and headlight wash/wipe was the 'Winter Pack' optional extra.

And at 212k, get that gearbox oil changed!

The heated seats are part of the winter pack if it was requested from new.
you can swap seats over to heated seats fit the switches andthe plugs are already under the seat.
But you will need a software activation which will cost you a arm and a leg.
welcome to Canbus.
Andy has done a write up on just fitting heated pads .http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...11#post1520011

i would flush the gear box for peace of mind.

Default Thanks once again..

I see said the blind man, hmm maybe not, i thought that all SE, had the heated seats so i,m wrong again, really disappointed when after a 6 hour trip to pick it up and looked for the switches!

Right the opinion is to change the gearbox oil! next question is what type does it have, how much litre wise , does it have a drain plug which is easly identifiable, i don,t want to undo the wrong bolt, and how do i refill? answers on a postcard to complete muppet Norfolk!

There is a drain plug on the bottom of the box. The way members seem to do it on here is to start the car and Cycle through the all the gear selections, this I believe moves the fluid around the box ect. Then drain and measure exactly how much fluid you get out as you will never get it all as there will still be fluid in the torque converter ect.

Then refill with the correct fluid, this is important however I would check with volvo for the correct type as I am unsure. Filling is done through the dip stick only! There is a a plug on the top of the box that looks like a fill plug but touching this will mean you lose third gear and you will have a very very bad day. It is recommended that you do this frequently so that eventually all the fluid will be new.

That is my basic understanding of the procedure I am sure other members will correct or offer further advise as i have manual cars. If you do a search you will find more posts about it.
