We used the ADAC for years hoping we would never need them.
Last year we did.
The old Passat broke down on the A34 Newbury bypass. We were towing the caravan and heading for the New Forest with my wife and mother in law who are both type one diabetics.
I called ADAC and they relayed there distress call to the AA. Fantastic, we thought, they wont be long.
Eight hours. Yes eight hours later a contractor eventually arrived with a suitable vehicle to carry the car and tow the 'van. This was after two visits from the AA with unsuitable vehicles.
We were recovered at two in the morning and taken to a desolate industrial estate in the Oxford area where we spent the night. The recovery company repaired the car the next morning and we continued on our way to enjoy our break.
During that awful evening I had to continually make calls to the ADAC in Germany due to the AA refusing to communicate with them. This caused me to rack up an unaceptable phone bill which after a lot of wrangling was eventalually refunded.
This year I obviously cancelled our contract with ADAC.
This, believe it or not, is a difficult process in itself. They refused to acknowledge my cancellation. So until the renewal came up and no bill arrived I was unsure if the cancellation had been successful.
As you can probably gather, I was not impressed.
This year we have made the same journey with the V70 and fortunately without incedent.
This meant I didn't need to try out the C&CC Arrival cover we now have.
