Default 240 Drivers or Front Passengers Seat!

OK..... It seems that the Drivers Seat Back on the 240 I have is less than comfortable, this is becasue the frame has been bent/distorted.

I'm looking for a Seat, dont mind what side or what colour as I will change the cover, just after a good seat and frame.

Just for your information - i just last month rebuilt my drivers seat from top to bottom using a donor passenger seat...I am slowly getting round to doing a "how to" on doing this....would this be of use? (bit of motivation to get on with doing it :P)

Steve,
Yes please!!
Do you know if the same technique of using a donor passenger seat will work for a 940?
Thanks,
Ben

Well I would imagine some parts are similar, but I havent much knowledge of the 700/900 series'.....I can do the article anyway and you can read it for a bit of guidance.

I dont know whether a passenger seat will be compatible with the drivers seat on a 940. On a 240 (if you are using the passenger seat frame) you just have to swap the lumbar support mechanism around do the adjuster knob is on the correct side, and the same for the recliner mechanism, although I found it was best to just use the original drivers seat base frame, and bolt the passenger seat backrest frame onto it (the reclinder mechanism is attatched to the seat base frame)

Hope you understand that. Im crap at describing things.

Hi Steve,

So I understand you used your original driver's seat base, but swapped the back with the passenger seat back (and switched around the adjuster knobs etc)?

I believe that on the 940, the passenger and driver's seat covers are interchangeable - just undo the clips at the bottom. Perhaps someone can enlighten me?

Look forward to your 'How to' which will be very useful as...who doesn't have a worn out driver's seat?!

Any chance you could post a pic of your seatseats? preferrably showing both sides of the seats as thats where any difficulties with interchangability are likely to be....

Steve,
Some pics of my 940 seats:
(below left) Passenger seat outside edge with knobs. (below right) Passenger seat inside edge - no knobs.

Let me know if you need more.
Many thanks,
Ben

It looks like you could do much the same thing as I did - swap the lumber support mechanism over on the donor passenger seat so that it operates from the opposite side.

Then unbolt the top half of the passenger donor seat and bolt it to the original drivers side seat base.

That then should again look like a drivers seat, but with a new backrest frame.

You would have to put the best foams onto the seat (no doubt the donor passenger seat - they are more than likely interchangable, you just might have to make a little hole for the lumbar support adjuster to go through...)

Then you would have to refit the drivers seat cover (it would have holes in the wrong side if you used the donor passenger seat cover)

Hope that makes a little more sense now....

Steve

Steve,

That sounds encouraging!

My driver's seat cover is tatty and the back cover gone in the usual place, see below:

So I'd need to use the donor cover with a suitable patch over the unwanted knob holes.
Will you be do a more formal 'How to'? It would be very useful.

BTW where did you get your donor seat? Apart from the forum here, do you suggest the usual places such as Braydons or Salvo?

Thanks again,

Ben
