V40 T4 Turbo 'Ticking'??
Hi all,
The old girl has developed a strange problem lately. Noticed that when revving in park (it's an auto!) using the TB, there's a loud metallic "ticking" noise coming from the turbo area. Performance doesn't seem to be affected, so hopeful the turbo itself is OK. Any ideas? Also, I hadn't used/started the car for a couple of weeks and needed to jump start it, and when driving around I noticed that lifting off the throttle after hard accelaration there was a 'woosh' noise, as if air sucking. Couldn't see any spilts in pipes, and the noise went away after a day or so. Could these be related? Many thanks in advance Dave |

If the ticking is during revving the engine its probably the injectors breaking down, when i say breaking down i mean stopping the flow of fuel which its meant to do, they are prone to ticking when they close, if its when youron back throttle its more than likely the wastegate arm rattling. Another thing these cars are prone too. None of them are a worry, just annoying. Mine does both and flies like a b'stard.

Thanks! I know it does it when revving/ holding constant revs with the car in park, but can't here anything when the engine is under load... I will assume that it maybe the wastegate then as it is definately coming from the turbo area.
Many thanks |
