My experience...I dont have one on my Volvo, but my 1976 BMW 2002 restomod is my daily driver and I have had one on my car for about 5 years...about 60-70K miles. Not a hiccup. In the BMW world the failures that we are seeing is oil getting out of the engine into the distributor because of high pressure and a seal. This seems specific to the BMW M10 engine and I have not experienced it, Full disclosure...I was a beta tester for the Bluetooth version. I had an issue with my beta unit that was software related. After it got warm, you couldn't change the curves until it cooled down. I bought a production unit when it was released because it made my car run so much better. I'm a fan.

DaWhole9, you say the time and mileage without a hiccup but how often have you removed the distributor cap and checked the integrity of the rotor arm and disc? I would suggest most owners won't bother at all because there are no points to check and we are told it's a 'fit and forget' item.

To be fair it does say if you read the official blurb that the rotor should be inspected from time to time

I did recently as the car was idling rough and I was doing a major tuneup so I checked the cap and rotor condition to see if that was a factor in its running. Turned out the valve adjustment got it back to running smooth, the cap and rotor were great and I inspected them and play to make sure all was fine.
