VA+ is standard for all new cars at least in BE/LUX since MY2019.

Looking to my terms and conditions of Volvo Switzerland, I can see that my XC60 MY2019 model is already covered by the + assistance that is valid during the first 5 years after the purchase of the car.

It's a bit more vague but still it covers fire incidents.
However, the service was denied with the justification "force majeure".
I did a complaint at Volvo but I expect no response since the experience I had since last Wednesday is "we will call you back" and they never do.

The Oncall service will also not help you if your car catches fire due to the battery of the car (and these freak accidents can always occur, check what happened with some Tesla models last year) or due to any other incident where fire was the cause of the damage. They wont tow your car neither give you a replacement vehicle.

Just a friendly reminder to include all the necessary insurance options against fire with your insurance company and take special note when checking the clauses so that the insurance does not exclude any responsibility due to a car failure causing the fire.
On Call will always work it has a built in battery back up ....

Clan, I think you've misunderstood, he's not saying it physically wouldn't work. Volvo refused to tow his vehicle to the Dealer, as it had been "involved" in a fire.

I probably shouldn’t be getting involved here but....

Isn’t that to be expected or am I being dim? Why would Volvo warranty be responsible for a fire unless it was a fault in the car?

If my house burnt down and set fire to my car I would expect my house and car insurance to discuss and if my car burn on it’s own I’d expect my car insurance company to start the process although ultimately if lots of Volvos were catching fire they might be contacting Volvo.

Assistance and warranty are two different things. And I believe this discussion is about assistance.

Ah ok - sorry I wasn’t aware there was a difference wrt a “non Volvo” fault issue, ie if I was to crash I’d be phoning my insurance no Volvo for recovery.

Cheers.

The Volvo Assistance is something that you as Volvo customer, buying a Volvo today, have the right to use in case of need. This service will be free of charge for the first 5 years. It does not replace your insurance but it will add some perks if you run into issues.

Ex: you want the car to be towed to a Volvo dealer at your choice. Volvo Assistance will ensure that for you as fast as possible while the car insurance, if the dealership is more than 20 or 30km away may take up to 5 days to get your car to your dealership.
Another example is courtesy vehicles. The Volvo Assistance will ensure you a replacement vehicle in the same range as your car during x number of days (depends on the country) while with the insurance it depends on the options you hire.

The warranty never was the key issue since the fire didn't start on the car.

HA! I wish, they say that's what they provide here in Sweden too but when I used Volvo Assistance earlier this year, my V90 T8 Inscription was temporarily replaced with a renault clio... it was terrible.

To be fair to Volvo Assistance, the hire cars provided at my local dealership (The largest Volvo dealership and workshop in the world) are contracted out to Hertz, and they were fresh out of anything Volvo, they also contract to the Renault dealership next door, hence the clio.
