Default V70 Handbrake Set up issues.Quick help please

Got the v70 through a fresh mot Yey

I got a look underneath too and only a few rear areas to protect,no rot

Anyway i fitted new shoes, disks pads and springs yesterday...mot passed today and as soon as i left the station...

The handbrake made a bang and i lost a side. I suspected this side had issues as it took no adjustment on the adjuster bar i fitted as oppose to the other side.

Do the cables have individual adjustment and how much of the dash is needed to get it off haha?

The cars currently jacked up drum reassembled etc but the shoes will need a clean as they looked a little glazed sadly and i could smell binding

One nut under the handbrake lever gaiter adjusts both cables.
Usually 4 screws to lift and remove the handbrake and gearstick surround to properly see the cables ends for unevenness.

If you have the facelift P2 you need to peel back the handbrake gaiter right over the handle and then lever it out from around the sealing ring, then remove, otherwise you will likely break some of the clips. The gaiter i am talking about is the one without the plastic surround on the outside. This is described in the Haynes manual but no pictures..

See video @ 4.40 for the older type.

what if you've replaced the shoes and springs, tightened the handbrake adjuster up so the handle feels decent, but nothing happens when you put the handbrake on even if the handle feels tight?

I'm testing by coasting at 5mph with the handbrake off and then pulling on the handbrake, would expect the car to slow down. Nothing.

You adjust until you can't push the car on one click and it moves fine once released.
If you run out of adjustment before the above happens, you need new cables.

Make sure the pivot arm is seated in the cables notch bud. If not the handbrake won't engage at all
