2004 S80 purchase
My son is looking at a 2004 S80 D5 with 140k miles

Make sure the cambelt, auxillary belt and all associated tensioners have been changed, these have a 10 year/108,000 (I think) change interval. It's well documented that the aux belt tensioners are the weak point and when it lets go it often throws the cambelt as well.
Other than that check autobox changes smoothly when hot - volvo say these are sealed for life, but this leads to premature failure, so if he gets it factor in a gearbox fluid change (assuming it's auto). Both these issues are very well documented on the forum. Also it's a heavy car, so most likely will have tired and knocking suspension. |

Well the car was great but the so called present owner had omitted that he hadn't had it sorned and he didn't have the log book!!!!
Also it had been a disabled persons vehicle so we would have fun taxing it. How annoying as it was the colour he wanted and had a black leather interior. What a waste of an afternoon and r0 quids worth of fuel SC |

The disabled tax class isn’t an issue, it reverts to PLG on change of ownership as far as I remember.
If the seller had just lost the v5 that is also easy to sort, although I’d take the precaution of a HPI check. Lack of SORN also isn’t an issue to a new owner. |

Maybe if we had been told all these things before we came to pick the vehicle up we would of been ok with it
Silly things like this always flag up alarm bells when purchasing a vehicle. I think the seller was more gutted than us. My son was counting the money out on th boot lid when I noticed the lack of a log book! SC |

If it's a good car then make the call. Chisel off a little bit more for the hassle factor
