- destroyed headlight blades
- the wrong stereo, in the wrong colour
- appears to have bolster wear
- the rear wiper isn't parking in the correct place
- missing wheel caps
- wheels need a refurb
- glovebox hinge is broken
- wrong exhaust (and indeed it looks smashed).

Added to that, its a lower spec car (GLT with some options missing - like electric rear windows, electric seats vs CD), which has quite a lower spec than the CD trim. Hardly a 'spot on' example and would need at least a few hundred, if not more, to get it 'spot on'. Your price is pretty accurate tbh.
To be honest, I think you are making too many assumptions regarding the ebay car.

The headlight wiper is slightly misaligned.(not necessarily broken)

The headlight wiper blade needs replacing £8

it might be the wrong colour stereo, but at least its the cd player. The black tape players are ten a penny, which is what this car probably had as its an early 1996 model.

The bolster wear looks very minimal, as the rest of the seat and all seats look near perfect with no wear at all

The rear wiper is as near to a perfect position as you can get

I agree, the wheels do look like they could do with a refurb.

The glove box is definitely slightly out of position and stuck, but can be fixed for £20 if you know what your doing.

There is no way of telling from those photos that the exhaust is shot!

You might be right, £2000 for this black one may be a bit too cheap, but £2500 + I believe is nearer the mark. The reason I say this is because the OP has said he was going to remove most of the interior, so I presume this is not as good as the exterior! (I could be wrong) He has only owned it a week. Not a good sign to a prospective purchaser!! The ebay car has only had one owner all its life!

Given the other sits perfectly and the o/s is so far up it pretty much screams dead motor. We're it only slightly higher then sure, you would be more safe in assuming it was just misaligned on the splines. Changing the offside is a real pain too, requiring pretty much the whole front end to come off.

No argument here.

Black tape players are ten a penny, but Black CD players or even black Premium Sound System units like the ones that came as stock on the CD trim cost ridiculous money and are very rare.

Yes, the rest of the seats look fine. However, wear in that position normally requires replacing two panels and the piping - far from a cheap job at an upholstery shop.

I don't agree there, when mine was in that sort of position it failed to clear a full third of the rear window.

Yes, it is an easy fix but it still requires fixing, and takes a fair chunk of time if you aren't as familiar with these cars as you and I.

Look at it. Its the wrong tip, sat in the wrong location, looking extremely scabby. I didn't say it was shot, I said it looks smashed - which from the scratches and scabbing I would hazard is not bad assumption.

This is all irrelevant as this is not the car the MK is selling, I was merely pointing out that comparing a far from perfect near base-spec car to a much rarer top spec car that appears (externally) to be in fine condition is a bit folly. Such a car should not be used to gauge the price of MKs example. A more relevant example would be a brace of ex-VOC T5s which recently sold for in excess of £3k - and they were both GLT spec cars with some foibles.

I don't think an asking of £3750 is too high, but I think selling price of £3250 or so might be more realistic. But if you list it for that people will offer you £2.5k so a bit of perseverance is required. Both Selby and Dean make a good point about the shortness of your ownership however, as that can scare people off.

Thumbs up

Cookeh, I think we will agree to disagree on this one.

From the MOT history it looks like its been sat around doing not many miles between MOTs. That could put people off a bit maybe.

I watched this car when on sale on e-bay - I was interested but not enough to take a trip to Yorkshire to view it! The photos on e-bay did include interior shots, the interior looked to be in very good condition.

I previously bought an 850 R that had done few miles in the previous couple of years. I have subsequently done 2.5K miles and so far can see no ill effects from low use.

Is there any truth to S70/V70's being less desirable than 850's? It seems easy to pick up an S70 or V70 T5 for small money still, despite being more or less the same car. C70's are particularly cheap too.

Yea I travelled around 10hrs to collect the car. Dont think I ever do that.

But as mentioned before if it doesnt it doesnt sell
Not causing me no harm. I think my pricing is fair due to the others that are on sale.

But the whole reason I'm selling so early is I've found something more suitable.

Do not want to put anybody's nose out of joint but this mota ( as glorious as it looks ) was for sale without success for approx 12 months before the OP purchased. You are all intelligent fellas so make your own mind up

And yes there are times when we pay a little over the odds for a desirable mota

And I for one do not buy this "safe investment, prices only on the rise bull**** " which has been doing the rounds for at least 5 years. It is just that and anybody with any knowledge knows these are gorgeous constant maintainance beasts !

It could be argued that the S70/V70 is the better buy, slightly more refined and less creaky however an original 850 T5 manual is genisis... it's the car that marked a serious change for Volvo plus it also became a bit of an icon plus they're far rarer and thus quite collectable and supply and demand dictates good ones are worth a premium.
