2004 XC70 D5 Auto - VIDA Codes
Hi All,
Having had a few Volvo's now I recently 'treated' myself to another for the sole purpose of towing a caravan, which means I'll have the S80 up for sale soon. :-( She's a 2004 XC70 D5 Auto with a mere 205k on the clock - only just running in! I have VIDA and have plugged it all in and read / cleared codes. Thankfully I only have 2 recurring codes that I'm not concerned about at this moment in time: Air Quality Sensor Mirror Heating However, there are two issues which I do want to get resolved before the inaugural caravan trip on the 19th of this month, one VIDA is reporting that I'm a bit suspect on, but the second is boost related. The questionable issue is the Fuel Correction Figures, I've seen a lot of posts with people reporting similar results to me, and it appears its an issue with VIDA rather than the car. I'm going to do a leak-back test to confirm, but the readings at idle are: 1 - 5.7 2 - 5.7 3 - 5.7 4 - 0 5 - 35 The other issue is an intermittent boost issue. From the little I've driven the car it seems it is more likely to happen when the engine is cooler rather than warmer but it does appear to be coming more frequently. Symptoms: When accelerating with a moderate throttle, over 2500 rpm / accelerating quickly past this point, I get the 'Engine System Service Required' message and the car goes into limp. A cycle of the ignition clears the message and the car is back to normal. VIDA is reporting the following two fault codes: 1 - ECM-6805 2 - ECM-1400 I have connected a vacuum pump to both the engine mounts and these seem fine, having both been replaced circa 2 years ago. Tonight I intend on connecting one to the VNT actuator and testing this. Am I correct in thinking this is likely to be the Turbo Vanes because of both the 1400 AND 6805? Your wisdom is much appreciated. Best, Martyn. |

Free and full movement and quick return of the VNT actuator is essential so look carefully for that when testing it especially on the first couple of pulls of vacuum when you can sometimes see the stickiness/hesitation.
That act of testing the VNT can sometimes be enough to cure underboost/overboost.
