That’s great advice and info, good job a garage did yours as it’s then their problem when it snaps! I’ll get at it from the top and get some penetrating oil in there then maybe just pour oil in there for good measure before I back it out!

Thanks!

So, after covering the bolt in plus gas over a number of days (including from the top), then loosening/tightening slowly to help work it out it still snapped...

The bolt looks bent to me maybe this caused the issues (pic attached - any thoughts?) and they look to have been reused... Very irritated that it sheared...

To end the thread....

After dropping the subframe a few inches the oil pan came out easily enough. I was right in my thoughts that the wrong gasket sealant had been used when the pan last came off and it had leaked into the oil pan and clogged up the oil pick up pipe (it had bent inwards and was pretty much blocked completely with rubber sealant).

So, I checked the bottom end of the engine and every single rod bearing moved... not just a little but side to side about 1mm striking the outer most edge..... The car must have been starved of oil for some time.

It explains the low compression results and confirms my worse suspicions... oh well, you win some you lose some... Car will be sold for spares as I no longer have the time to get this fixed.

To anyone else who has the oil pressure light i'd suggest a compression test and also check the pistons for movement via the spark plug hole while you are there.

Oh boy do i have experience with this. Not only did my subframe bolt break, but when drilling pilot hole the drill bit broke in there as well. 2 days of hitting bit with a punch and $60 worth carbide and cobalt bits drilling it out. Once i had a 5/16 hole i took a saw zaw blade cut it thin, stuck it in the hole in the bolt and cut it in half length ways and finally fell out. Good luck be patient it will eventually come out. I actually managed to not damage the threads. And a new bolt went in after. After that I said forget control an bushings and filled them with windo weld urethane lol. Its a $1500 winter beater that had a lot of float In the front end. Ipd poly inserts and urethane filled lca bushings waa good enough.

Here is the bolt. Or what's left.
