They're just some of the file extension names for virtual machines like jpeg png for photos, mp3 aac for music, wav mp4 for movies etc.
It's simpler than you might think and you get written and video instructions anyway.

It will install and run Vida but it will be like wading through treacle.
Each to their own though.

What would I need as a minimum for reasonable performance?

Personal preference is 2Ghz minimum, 4GB RAM and an SSD but that's just a preference not what you need as such.
Some are quite happy to have Vida running on anything regardless of speed. My video here shows the difference just an SSD can make.

Hi Cheshire.
I recently purchased one of those new fandangled Lenovo LapTops with a 64GB SSD and a 128GB memory card slotted in the side plus 4GB ram. I can run an external HD via the USB 3.0 slots. It’s running 64bit Win10, but as with a lot of new Laptops, it does NOT have a DVD/CD drive. However, I see USB 3.0 external CD drives are not too expensive. Is it suitable for your Vice/Vida setup? Any info much appreciated. Thanks in advance |

If it does support it, a lack of DVD drive isn't a problem as my VM is supplied as a download which you can then unpack to a USB drive and run from there.

It's more like netbook/notebook specs rather than laptop but it does support Virtualization.
Whilst dual core with no multithreading is not an issue if the clock speed is decent, @ just 1.1GHz, it will run a VM but don't expect great performance. Vida-wise, it's alright for occasional use and certainly better than nothing.

Thanks Cheshire. I think you are right ref the notebook, etc stuff. But it does what I need for the moment.
It will be only for occasional use as I am quite unwell at the moment, but if I can ever be fixed (debatable) then it will definitely be useful. What else do I need (cables) etc and at what sort of cost? Payment? I have PayPal. DM me if it’s more suitable? Thanks for your help, appreciated. |
