Default Sat Nav issues

Hi All,
I know this is a common problem but i cant see anything specific to my problems hence my post
2007 XC90 D5 SE Sport

Sat nav working fine, but has original map, i believe that map is on hard drive as there is NO disc in unit under passenger seat, when i bought XC 3 yrs ago there is original Sat nav disc pack with 2 Eurpean discs
part no T1000-12255 & 12256 which cover and a volvo cleaning disc, i would imagine this set cam with a UK disc as well, but i don't have. there is NO disc in machine but sat nav working fine, I have bought relevant update disc but machine will not read it, ive tried cleaning it and cleaning disc seems to spin for about 30 seconds, done this loads of time but when i put in old discs of the new update disc unit says "wrong disc"
I can enter the diagnostic menu by pressing "back enter back" and get this view,
I have also attached pic of player unit with numbers, can any kind person give advice or solutions. many thanks Tim

Have you bought the right disc for your version of the satnav (mmm, mmm2, mmm+), do you have its part number?

It’s always possible the dvd drive is iffy as well, the lasers get weak with age and stop reading the disc.

That is definitely the WRONG disc.
It is the DVD for the previous generate nav system, which used different DVDs for different regions of Europe.
The previous system was NOT hard disc based.
Your nav is hard disc based, identical to mine. It’s called the mmm+ system.

You need the 2 x update DVDs for the systems fitted from 2007 to 2014. If you google for a e.g. 2010 XC90 nav you will find the right DVDs.

Whilst your map might be from 2006 data, the car will have a model year of 2007 or newer. Note that model year starts in August of the prior year.

The DVDs for the mmm+ HDD based nav are sold as a set of two, and contains all of Western Europe.
The DVDs will first update the firmware on the nav and then load the new maps to the hard drive. You can only load entire Western Europe, you cannot load just the UK.
Loading takes about 200 minutes, which is a bit more than 3 hours.
You’ll need the key in, in pos 1 (accessory), engine not running, and a battery charger connected for the 3 hours duration. Otherwise the car battery goes flat. Turn off all unnecessary power (stereo off, climate control off, interior lights off, illumination to minimum, tailgate closed to keep cargo area light off).

I’ve done this twice now and got away with a 5A charger, but a 10A charger would be better.

PS the latest maps were issued in 2018, containing data from late 2017. Rumour has it these were the last ever issued maps for the XC90.

I’ll search for my post....

Thank you Swiss,
I suppose that's the problem on the 2007's (apart from road tax!!) bits from previous generation and bits from new. i was alway a bit unsure about which model the sat nav is, i did contact the seller before buying so trusted his reply.

Thanks for a possible solution. out of interest where did you purchase your update discs from
Cheers
Tim

Google for “2018 Sat Nav Map Update Disc For All RTI MMM+ HDD Sat Navs”

You can buy original Volvo pressed DVDs from your Volvo dealer for about 150 GBP. Guaranteed to work, last forever.

You can get black market copied DVDs (pirated DVDs) from various sources for about 20% of that price.

Whatever source you use, the update is very worthwhile, as it includes a new operating system and 12 years worth of road changes for you. How much that will impact you depends on where you drive and where you navigate to.

At that price they must be pirated illegal copies. Enjoy!

I didn't ask ? i suspect you may be correct, but when you call a Volvo dealership and they give you the part number and say "theres cheaper alternatives available"

Cheers
