Default Quick Shift!

These kits are available from a certain place in the USA only i believe so rather than pay £50 odd and wait for it and then pay import charges i decided to do my own version.

M56 variants on the pre ME7 and if nothing in the way on ME7 then ok, no good for S40 T4 with M56 as the engine mounting is in the way.

If you use your initiative it can be done in a couple of hours and the result is quite remarkable to the driving experience and feel of the motor especially when on heat!!

Take one pressure cooker and cut out the shape from the base as it is 6mm thick, easily cut with a jigsaw and a Bosch T144D blade which does not clog up. You could make it in layers of thinner material if wanted but the end result has to be firm and strong.

You need One 40mm x 6mm bolt, nut and spring washer to locate the plate.
One 35mm x 8mm bolt, nut and spring washer to locate the end of the remote 12mm thick cable of the gearchange use with the large washer on top when relocating from the original 8mm pin.

You need an 8mm spacer to replace the gearchange cable when replacing the 6mm plate over the 9mm locating pin, using the original cable clip.

Measurements are on one of the pictures which i used a template for then did a second smaller plate to actually use. I enjoyed messing around so took my time. The measurements are fairly critical to get the gearknob to be upright in the Neutral Position as in the last picture.

The inserts for the gearchange ends can be purchased from Volvo and replaced but do not remove as in the video unless you have them to put back in.

Watch the video and look at my pictures to get the final result.

Happy Gear Changes.

Just an update......

"The inserts for the gearchange ends can be purchased from Volvo and replaced but do not remove as in the video unless you have them to put back in"

The inserts for the cables are no longer available from Volvo and the whole cable has to be bought.

Since knowing this i have bought a couple of inserts from the said place in USA and have them ready to fit if and when needs be.

come and give a hand ...

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=169724

Idea would be to make a kit for the V 70 D5 2001 era cars

get any bolts etc listed etc and then i can get a mate to cut the plates on a CNC
machine .

The "throw" on these cars is a bit looooooooooooong !
