Default Used S90 warranty

hi guys. I've been in the process of looking for a new car for a while. I never really had any interest in Volvo but s90 caught my eye some time ago.
I can't afford a new one so I would have to go for used and probably not from the main dealer. With my budget I would have to go for 16/17 plate and/or higher mileage.
I guess some of these cars are or soon will be out of warranty. I do over 20k miles a year and the last thing I would want is to spend a lot of money on a car and then to have some major problems with it right away.

I read about the vibration issues on the new Volvo's here and in some other places and that put me off a bit but I haven't completely taken it off the list.
I wouldn't be that concerned if this would be a simpler car but as we know it is not so there are a lot of things that could go wrong.

Does anyone have any experience with buying one of the new Volvo's out of warranty or not from the main dealer? If there is any warranty left is it transferable to the new owner?
Does Volvo offer any extended warranty options?
Is it worth taking one of the 3rd party car warranties or are they worthless once the bill gets too high?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Warranty is transferable - it’s the car that’s covered.

You can buy an extended Volvo warranty but curiously, it’s still provided by a third party company. I’d still go for it over a non Volvo branded warranty.

Not sure what you mean by vibration issues? No experience of that.

Mine might be for sale soon.

I have only ever read one account of vibration issue, that was a prop shaft issue, some new owners have mistaken the lane departure warnings as a vibration issue when in fact it is a safety feature.
(lane departure can be turned on or off, it vibrates the steering wheel if you wander across a white line over a certain speed without indicating) you can also set it to vibrate, audible warning of both.

There is a separate thread about the vibration issue on this forum.
I saw on other volvo forums quite a few people having the same or similar problems so it not a one off.

Was there a common cause of this vibration, It is not something that crops up on here very often. Faulty tyres, balancing, people holding steering on full lock too long (should never be done with power steering) etc, usually not faults with the actual vehicle. I would not worry about vibration issues.

In many cases even the dealer struggled to get it fixed or they weren't taking it seriously. Read it in few places on Swedish, Polish and US Volvo forums.
That doesn't completely put me off but it's just something to check on a test drive.

Mine doesn’t vibrate, this is a very isolated issue.
