I have been in contact with a French friend of mine who lives in Cannes.
He informed me:

All the 90 km signs have now been changed and Sat Navs cannot reveal the emplacement of radar, only he says, where controls are likely (not sure what this means?).
He also said, that in the North of France and especially Normandy, private companies are subcontracted the task of roaming the roads in private vehicles with undetectable radar, to catch offenders.

In years gone by, I used to drive, several times a year from Luxembourg to Vitrolles.
Pleased that I am not having to do that anymore.

Well, I can only quote what I have been told, by someone I have known, for over 20 years.

Ofcourse, no pun intended.

They've done an experiment in Normandy only- so no speeding tickets were ever handed out- and it was a failure- so they aren't following through with this idea..

I live in Belgium and drive in France regularly (at least once a month). A few observations:

Recent software versions of Sensus no longer include speed camera data for France. Not sure exactly when they were deleted, but I know that the version my car came with from new in May 2018 included them.

Fixed speed cameras are preceded by a warning sign and a reminder of the speed limit a few hundred metres in advance. Compared to the UK, they are relatively easy to spot. The cameras themselves are often hidden just after a motorway bridge.

Many speed cameras are currently out of service due to the actions of the Gilets Jaunes. These are gradually being repaired, and in some cases replaced by "improved" versions.

Mobile speed traps are relatively common. Usually the police car is parked out of sight on a motorway service road so you won't see it until it's too late.

I use an app called CamerAlert. It can be set to automatically launch when the phone is connected to Bluetooth, and the warning sounds are routed via the Sensus system. It's only as good as the data it contains, but I've found it to be the best solution for my needs.

Of course, the best thing is just to stick to the speed limit

Yes- my XC60 was delivered Dec 2018 and cam warnings worked until the annual service a year later- the sensus update killed it for France, Germany.. Still works fine in Austria for eg.

Speed limits have all been reduced in France while the heatwave is in force to reduce pollution.

Authorities may also introduce restrictions in some areas applicable to your vehicles Criti Air Badge (2 for most reading this) in the coming days. See / use the Green Zones App for information relevant to your own vehicle.
