I seem to be experiencing problems buying tyres.

Was informed at a recent interim service that the rear nearside tyre had a small split in the groove (see attached pic). Quite gutted really, as rear tyres have 6mm of tread and fronts have 5mm of tread!

Questions are:

- judging by the the pic of the split attached - would this warrant replacement right away?

- I usually go for Pirelli Verde All Seasons (235/55/R17 V M+S). They work well for me...but NOWHERE in the UK seems to have them (that I can find) in the size/spec I need. Have Pirelli superseded the " Scoprion Verde All Seasons" with the Pirelli "Cinturato All Season SF 2" or something?

Seems that Michelin Cross-Climates 2 are hard to come by too!

Any help much appreciated!
I don't think a split like that is repairable and its likely that it'll get bigger over time, possibly leading to a puncture or a blowout being the worst case scenario.

I suggest getting it replaced ASAP or putting your spare on (if you have one).

I can't help with which brand superseded which. All I can suggest is going with the best brand you can afford, but personally, I wouldn't trust that split tyre.

Is it a split in the tyre (you can see severed cords) or a slit in the tyre (gone over something sharp that has cut the rubber but the carcass cords aren't showing)?

Serious, not semantic Q btw!

Thanks Kev067! Yeah, I suspected it might be unrepairable...such a shame as they're all "new" (i.e. in the last 2 years).

I'm thinking of going Michelin Cross Climate 2' on the rear (if I can find 'em)!

From what I can see it is a "slit" (doesn't go down to cords)...however the garage stated it was "cut to cord"...so I'm guessing it'll not improve either way.

I hit a pothole a while back - so would be unsurprised if that occurence was the culprit...

I have just ordered fitting of the Avon AS7 all seaon tyres to replace my old & worn conti cross contact LX sports. They are currently £146 ish but if you live near a 'just tyres' framchise they are 126.67 fitted - pr and this was price matched by my local formula1 tyre centre. They are a mid range tyre.

Thanks garethXC...

I took the plunge with Michelin CC 2's. Lots of hype of these in recent times...so have ordered and will have them put on in a couple of days..

HAs anybody tried Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons 3rd Gen tyres?

Seems Michelin CC 2 tyres are as rare as hens' teeth...like Pirelli's.

Allegedly, this is partly due to us having such mild winter this year (and across Europe) thus reducing market therefore all seasons tyre production.
