2008 s80 mpg
Hi, I drive a 2008 s80se D5 Geartronic. Can anyone tell me how many miles to the gallon I should be getting. At the moment I only get an avarage of 26.2. Also does anyone know about the latest recall for the particulate filter problem could this be my problem. Thanks

Is the mpg you are quoting for when you are towing, or just driving without anything attached ? Again, if it's when you are towing, WHAT are you towing? If the figure you've given is for say, towing an average 4 berth caravan or a horsebox, then it doesn't seem that far out. If it's a driving solo figure, then it sounds very much like your car has a fuel issue. Sounds obvious, but if you are towing a great big 6 berth caravan with a twin axle or a mobile burger bar for example.........then yes.....you will shift fuel!!

Hi, Thanks for the reply.
Yes I tow a 4 berth single axle caravan but we where away for a week so I towed to the site and was averaging 23,toured around without the van for a week and then towed home.Been home for about 3 weeks now and the car still says average MPG 26.2. I thought once I wasn't towing it would go back up. |

Mmmm interesting, and in that case, it would seem to be a fuel issue. Once you've taken the load off, you should go back to normal fuel consumption.
The problem with fuel consumption and towing figures is that no two journeys are ever the same. High winds, lots of hills, heavy traffic, use of the A/C, can all add up. With the high cost of fuel, it would make sense to get it checked out. it might just need slight adjustment to bring your average mpg back to something respectable. I presume you're not a boy racer!! Anyway, that's MY take on it, and hope it helps you.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the comments. No I have not reset the counter since towing but I will. Before I towed the average MPG was only 28. No I am not a boy racer.Might have been 40 years ago. The caravan is only 1427kg Stirling Eccles Emerald. Going by your comments I think there might be something wrong. Looks like a trip back to Volvo dealer for a moan. Thanks |
