I suppose it's possible I'm wrong on the tone ring/wheel bearing thing. If they used different set-ups on the 1.6 Drive, but it would be a bit odd!

Have you got a link to the part in question?

I see now that the front wheels have rings integral to the bearings and rears are separate. Looks like new bearings are in order then.

Situation solved and faults closed out.

I cleared all codes, then started the car with an immediate misfire, revs limited to 2000 and all codes reappeared. Ruled out tone rings as the car hadn’t turned a wheel.

Set car scanner app to wheel speeds, drove slowly backwards and forwards. All wheels showed identical graphs. Also pointed to nothing physical at the wheels.

Checked fuses and all intact by looking from the sides. Withdrew fuse 36 (ABS) and the contacts were discoloured and greasy. Quick scrape with fingernail, replaced and started car. No codes, no misfire.

Will get the contact cleaner out and clean the fuses properly this weekend.

Hope this helps anyone who ever has the same problem.

I hope that's genuinely sorted it, although utterly bizarre if that's the case!

It seems to be sorted. Driven about 40 miles since and started/stopped a few times. Also find it bizarre.

Oh I don't know.... what's the difference between one sensor/reluctor fault against the entire system not having enough voltage....either way the car would sense the malfunction and restrict power which appears to be in the form of a misfire.
