Sorry Davebbase, I should have said that is an excellent result on your father-in -laws XC90 and well appreciated no doubt.

Lozzingers- thanks for the feedback on the CrossClimates, they do sound ideal for the UK weather.

Regards

Here's what I've been up to with my own wheels / where I'm at so far.

Here's what I started with (this is after a basic wash)

Untitled by Dave Butterworth, on Flickr

That brake dust has been baked on since I got it (ex managers car so you'd think they'd know better). It's been hit several times with fallout remover but over winter I've been short of wash time / will power and sort of just lived with it. Whilst I'm not working during lockdown, I've decided I may as well sort them.

Several hits later with a mix of fallout remover and tar remover, I'm starting to get there!

Not perfect yet, still some baked on which I'm expecting the Iron X paste to remove. Unfortunately the centre caps and bolt covers are looking a little worse for wear, so whilst I'm ceramic coating the wheels, I'm getting some replacements ordered which I'll coat as well!

Sorry to go off topic but It looks like you have Michelin CrossClimate on your car, and I wondered how you find them on the XC90?
I have always used winter and summer tyres but having read that the CC are excellent in winter conditions they are tempting but I am not sure if they are any good in the summer as most review say that all seasons are, to some degree, a trade-off.
Have you had these tyres long enough to say how they perform in hot weather, and if they increase the noise levels and fuel consumption? This would be of interest to me as I currently do lot of motorway miles in the summer months.
I would appreciate your thoughts and this thread has shamed me into cleaning my car!!

Thanks

MY19 XC90 D5 Momentum, winter pack, heated rear seats
The tyres are fine - they great in hot weather I've never noticed any issues. We haven't had any snow so I can't comment on snow performance I understand the cross climates are more summer biased so weaker in the snow than other all season type tyres but up there with the best summers. Noise is Ok - the concrete patch on the M25 is very noisy but the noise on normal roads is perfectly fine. No different than the Conti-silents that the car came with in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback. They sound like a good all season tyre.

I managed to get outside and clean and polish my car - unfortunately it was too sunny (don't usually say that in England!!) to finish off by adding a coat of Auto Glym HD Wax, that will have to wait until next time!

I am pleased with the outcome though - I do usually try and polish & wax the car every 4-5 weeks.
