Xenon bulb replacement,2006,XC70 D5 Euro 4.
Hi,In the next few days I intend to replace both the dipped beam xenon bulbs in my car - one is flickering occasionally and the other has yellowed in colour. On reading several 'how to's' most people (and VIDA) say detach the front bumper and remove the headlights to get sufficient clearance. However on my car (as title) if I detached some cables on the R/H side and some cables and moved the airbox on the L/H side it looks as though I would have ample room to change the bulbs - or am I missing something? Before I leap into it has anyone with the same vehicle/engine combination changed the xenon's on their car and wondered what all the fuss was about?
Cheers John |

OK - since there's been no replies, I'll answer my own question!
As far as the 2006 XC70 with D5 Euro 4 engine is concerned, when it comes to changing the Xenon dipped bulbs it's certainly possible without removing the bumper and removing the headlights. Unclipping some cables from both sides and detaching the air box/combined ECU on the L/H side gives more than ample room to change the bulbs. Having said that, it wasn't exactly easy, since you really need a mirror and even then are working by and large by feel on fragile items which have been in place for years. Taking my time - learning as I went- start to finish for both bulbs took about an hour. Cheers John |

yea not worth it - whipping the bumper off is faster - if it was just 1x bulb it might be the same speed.

but if you do require to remove the whole light assembly, yes there are three bolts, two of which are hidden behind the bumper

There is no need to remove the bumper, not on an XC70 anyway (its a larger wrap around one as well ) Just remove the airbox / ecu as per the OP description
