Default ECC flashing lights

Hi,

I've got the seemingly common problem where when I turn the ignition on, the fan blows full for a few seconds then stops and the recirculation and another light flash orange for 20 seconds.

I've found quite a few resources to help me get to the bottom of it but none specifically for the C70; first, I checked the cabin temperature sensor which was nice and clean and comes on / stays on with the ignition, so I don't believe that's the problem.

Then I opened the "ECC Unit" to see if anything had blown in there but all looks good, no charring etc.

I then removed the blower motor & cage; this perhaps is the problem, as if I spin the cage by hand it comes to a halt quite quickly but I'm not sure if that's normal. I sprayed WD40 into it with the straw as close to the bearings I can get but it's still the same.

I have 2 questions:
1) in my internet searches I have seen references to resistors, which I have not come across here. Does C70/ECC not have them (or are they in the ECC Unit)?
2) I have found a replacement motor at Euro Parts for just over £100. Before I buy it can someone confirm that on a good motor, if you spin the cage it will continue for a while (unlike mine!)?

Thanks!

p.s. if I go for the new motor should I also replace the pollen filter?
