Auxillary Belt Tensioning Tool
I intend to replace my AC compressor and believe I'll need to loosen the belt tensioner. Please could anyone confirm the best socket type and size to do this? Thanks

Depends on what type of tensioner is fitted to your engine. Some require 14mm socket and others are T60 Torx

Thanks. Forgot to state its for a 2004 V70 2.4 T5. So safe to assume a T60 based on the video which was for a 2004 s60.

As an update for future for anyone doing the same. The tensioner release was a T60. The pulley itself is a 14mm, although I left that alone as no need to take the wheel off, just the belt.
My local Halfords only had a 1/2" T60 socket, which in the end with the wrench was a couple of mm too deep to fit in the space. I was able to use adjustable locking pliers to clamp around the T60 socket as a work around, so no need for a specific tool in the end thankfully. |
