Oil leak, but from where?
Hi guys,
whilst relocating my horns this afternoon, I notice a few drips of oil under the car they seem to be coming from the back of the object (sorry I don't what it is) marked with the arrow. Any idea's greatly appreciated. I will try and get the car up on axle stands tomorrow for a closer look. The car does seem to be using more oil than usual, could it be serious? http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/dc/user_files/407.jpg

RE: Oil leak, but from where?
Hi Howard
Just a thought...When was the turbo breather system last changed? May be nothing to do with it but, blocked breather=oil leaks

RE: Oil leak, but from where, FINALLY with photos
hi howard,
not 100% sure but that part is NOT on a fwd so i'm thinking it could be to do with the awd. it does look very oily where do the pipes that run to and from it go to??? what colors the oil??? maybe the rica's put extra stress on a already worn part and caused the leak?? have u got a warranty?? on my cav turbo 4x4 when the transfer box went it leaked oil like yours from roughly the same area and it shared its oil with the power steering and this also gave out, how are your fluid/oil levels??? but hey could be nothing fingers crossed good luck :( paul |

Hi Paul,
have not had a chance to get her up on axle stands yet, to see where the pipes run to/from. The oil level has been dropping a bit quicker than usual, I have a warranty (Volvo), although with 74k on the clock I do not expect much to covered by it.

RE: Oil leak, but from where?
Check to see if the oil is comming from any of the hoses near and on the turbo. You may just need to tighten a jubillee clip up. Quite a bit of oil gets into the turbo from the breather system.

RE: Oil leak, but from where, FINALLY with photos
Howard,
The item shown in the photo is the bottom of the transfer box. This has its own oil supply (for which Volvo charges about £20/Ltr).The level can be checked by removing a level plug on the left hand side of the housing just behind where the offside driveshaft comes out. Hope this helps. Neil |
