Default "Official" parking brake shoe service schedule ?

Other than some thing like, "Parking brake, check/adjust", has anyone ever seen on any Volvo service schedule anywhere where it actually says something more like "REMOVE rear discs and inspect parking brake shoes" ?

If so, at what mileage/annual service ?

No offence intended but, NO stabs in the dark, IMHO's, "I think", other opinions etcetera ! Just black and white facts!

I am intrigued and more than happy to be enlightened !

Thanks'.

To put it simply then there isn't one, that's what my dealer told me they are to be inspected and most likely changed when the rear brakes require attention in there words my s60 has just been in for its 108k service and they were replaced along with disks and pads

Agree with Graham. The first you know there is something amiss is when they de-laminate (usually casues a clonking type noise) and they destroy your hubs.

For what they cost I replace them with rear pads every four years irrespective of the wear.

The story being, actually best be safe and say, the story being for example, you are fortunate enough in life to be able to pay circa £34,000.00 (with the extra options), for a new Volvo, then to pay Volvo main dealer rates for 6, and independent Volvo specialist rates for 3 of the 9 scheduled services, on the button, when due for 9 years.
And that the most recent of these services (AND MOT) being less than a year (and only 8,000 miles ago), was carried out by a Volvo main dealer.

But then this year take the car to an independent garage for its annual MOT, which it then fails due to handbrake inefficiency. O.K, let's say "stuff happens".

But the physical reason why it failed ?

Because the nearside has a de-laminated handbrake shoe, and the offside also has a de-laminated handbrake shoe along with its partner shoe having no friction lining at all, and that means totally missing (Heaven knows where, not worn away), therefore metal to metal contact when handbrake applied.

Fortunately the cars MOT was failed by an independent "backstreet" garage, therefore at least the car still has a hub assembly, and the family are alive ("Volvo for life").

O.K, that's the story (for example).

As a footnote I realise that there are home mechanics that change handbrake shoes regularly, and maintain their cars (like me, well I try !) thoroughly at home, BUT would this not be what people who are not home mechanics, pay specialist garages (and not "on the cheap"), to do for them?

But this is the main point; is it true that nowhere, in any service schedule and at any time does it appear to say "REMOVE rear discs and inspect handbrake assembly"?

Nope, unless you specifically ask for that to be done.
