Default Starting issues

Sometimes when I try to start my 2002 manual petrol V40, it almost starts but then instead makes like a very soft, low whossy noice. I can't describe it very well. It is most definitely not the ticking of a low battery.

It has only ever happened when I need to restart the car, not when I start it first thing. After a few attempts, I get it going.

I assume it is a lose wire or dodgy connection somewhere but any ideas/guesses where?

George

Sounds like the bendix on the starter motor isn't throwing the pinion gear out. The starter will just whirr without starting the car. The most common cause is the starter solenoid, but check the small signal wire that goes to the spade terminal on the starter solenoid first. If this wire is broken or corroded it can cause the issue that you're having

Default Cruise for petrol V40

I have a lead on a cruise control kit for my 2002 V40 1.8 petrol. This is the engine that is the four-pot version of the one in the V70.

I am not 100% that the kit I have found fits my car, does anyone have a picture of the engine bay with cruise control?
