V60 hybrid starter battery charging
I have a 2016 V60 D5 hybrid. Where I live is prone to power cuts. It occurs to me that I have an 11 kWh lithium ion battery in the car which would be handy as a stand by.
A trawl of the internet suggests there are fiendishly expensive solutions - but a much simpler method suggested for a Nissan leaf is to connect an inverter to the 12V starter battery with a pair of croc clips and as you run your TV/fridge etc from the inverter, the starter motor battery is charged by the lithium ion hybrid battery. Does anyone know please if the Volvo lead acid starter battery is charged by the hybrid battery in the same way? Thanks |

What's more complicated is connecting the "inverter" to your house electrics, without also connecting the rest of the UK at the same time !!

Agreed too complicated/not enough power to try run the whole house. In the same way I have to run an extension lead from a diesel genny into the house now - I could do the same from an inverter.
I think it might work if I leave the ignition on and the electric engine 'running' as it would be the same state then, as sitting in a traffic jam for example. The car would have to use it's traction battery keep the starter battery charged - or the starter battery would quickly flatten with wipers/blower/heated rear windscreen on without the internal combustion engine running/alternator turning. - so I think I might have answered my own question, 1st problem I foresee though is that the daytime running lights would be on all the time |

In other words the traction battery does not charge the 12 v starting battery .
