Done alright there for the tyres at £50 a corner. Mine came with 4 matched Pirelli’s can’t remember the rest but I had to swap the fronts to the back as they were getting low and had the wheel alignment done at quik rob him for £80 but it was open and it stopped it pulling off to the left and a little adjustment on the rears. They told me 2 new tyres the same as what’s on there now comes to £350 odd for 2 and I was shocked as I’ve never bought new tyres and only pay like £15 each on part worn and the tyre place I usually go too let’s me pick the cream of the crop so I can get 4 matched if I’m lucky or 2 pairs of decent ones usually Avon or hankook. Wheels are 245/45/18 if memory serves but quik fit can do one if they think I’m spending over £700 for 4 new tyres that’s half what I paid for the whole car! I would be tempted at £50 each for brand new ones though... if they’ve got my size for that price! Also done up the battery terminals to hopefully stop the low battery message and get the start stop working again but start stop is annoying imo so it’s no trouble if that feature never returns. Bought a cheap multimeter from screw fix for a tenner to check both battery volts (12.8v on both)

Default Complete suspension rebuild and upgrade

Finally completed my Covid project to completely rebuild my front and rear suspension on my 119,000 mile D3/4 P3 V70. I wanted to fit Eibach Pro-Kit springs, lowering the ride about 30mm, and decided to renew everything else at the same time, with all the advice being that it was about the right time to renew and replace the running gear.

I took the line of replacing with OE quality or better (rather than genuine Volvo for all) and have fitted mainly Lemförder - track rod ends, one lower balljoint, replacement bolts and sundries - or Meyle - drop links. Those drop links are thicker than the standard ones. Nice! The replacement lower balljoint assembly necessitated grinding off and drilling out the three rivets holding the original in the control arm and then bolting on the new one. Not an easy job... New shocks are Bilstein B4s and all the rubber isolation pads and the top bearings were replaced for the front and rear springs and shocks assemblies. Interestingly it was much cheaper (and easier) to buy Ford Galaxy/Mondeo parts for this - and many turned out to be Volvo parts! I'd recommend this approach to anyone looking for suspension parts for P3s.

Whilst in bits I cleaned down any rust, coated with rust killer and painted over with satin black Smoothrite. All looks great. The brake calipers I cleaned and then painted with blue Smoothrite, added high heat vinyl stickers and overheated with enamel lacquer. Looks fabulous so far! Just needing some bigger wheels (mine are 17" Balders) to fill the arches of the more aggressive lower look.

Have now upgraded to 18" Odysseus wheels from 17" Balders - did a swap with Maurice Mynah from this Forum and we both went away happy. Have not found the car noisier as a result of the 10mm wider tyres, nor prone to wander as I had heard (perhaps it's a tyre brand issue?) Still contemplating 19" Artios, though...

I'll be buying a 2009 V70 2.0 SE today, after having an '02 for the last 4 years. The old one has 291000+ miles and ever-increasing issues, so it's time for an upgrade.

I had to get SRS-AIRBAG codes reset as I had played around with the after-market radio, removed and replaced the front number. £54 just to get the codes read and reset!

I've been looking at code readers and DiCE/VIDA solutions but it is so confusing, especially as I am a Mac user, not Windows

So today i will mainly be trying to figure out why my 08 v70 centre console and other things like 12v sockets and obd2 port won't work... No radio, no blowers, no heaters, nothnig!

I had the biggest issue with steering lock/immobiliser, bt it is now sorted by sourcing a used one and cloning the data in the original unit, so it finally started last week after being dead for the past 1.5 years...

Yay!
