Default Power steering retrofit 1975 245DL

Hi there,

I have a 1975 245DL and I'd like to retrofit power steering. I've had no luck finding a scrap B21 to rob the bits off, so wondered if I can use b200/b230 parts?

The crank pulley is my stumbling block, it seems to be entirely different.

So my question is, can I fit a b230 crank pulley and power steering system to my b21, and if so can I update the alternator to the b230 type too?

I'm aware of the lower ball joint differences.

Cheers,

John

The pulleys are not interchangable between the B17/19/21/23 family and B200/230 family.

The alternator from a later engine will fit

Ok thanks!

So is the alignment of the early/late pulleys different?

Could I use an early 3 row pulley and upgrade to late model power steering, alternator and viscous fan?

I like the idea of having the adjustment of the late model alternator/PAS brackets and having a viscous fan coupling rather than my solid one!

It would doubtless be possible to make/adapt a custom set-up to provide two pulleys? The early pulley I recall attaches by 6 (?) smaller bolts rather than the single large one of the later engines. Would it perhaps be possible to fit two pulleys by using longer bolts?
Or get an engineering shop to weld on and balance a second pulley?

I remember years ago our local boatyard fabricated a double pulley to enable a secondary charging system on a Perkins engine.
Something must be possible?
