Default Shocks, springs or both?

The rear suspension of my 740 saloon is a little soft and bouncy...the car sits nicely at rest and hasn’t sagged at the rear, so I’m debating whether to just change the shocks or whether to go all out and change the springs too.

What are your thoughts? I’d rather not get into changing front struts etc as the front end is in pretty decent shape, so my instinct is just to go shocks, but I’m not averse to putting springs in.

Are they Nivos on the back end Phil? If so i'd suggest new springs and normal shocks - you'll need the new springs as they are shorter and stiffer than the Nivo type springs.

Somewhere i linked to the correct springs for my estate and many others (inc 940s) and they should also be the right ones for your saloon. When i remember which thread it was, i'll post a link up unless you find it first.

After doing the back, i realised just how bad the fronts were as well so did them too - all done for under £125 for all 4 springs and shocks!

The back end on mine is just standard shocks and springs-no Nivos so it should be pretty straightforward. £125 all in is great! Did you DIY or get it done?

I managed it myself Phil, each rear spring and shock took about an hour taking it very easy. The fronts were a bit more tricky and needed a coil spring compressor. I had some manual ones but i bought a secondhand hydraulic one to do the fronts. Needed some help with that as i didn't want to disconnect things to completely separate the strut from the car so needed wxtra paws to support it while i did other things before getting it into the compressor.
A few pumps of the pedal, remove the top nuts and slowly let the spring decompress - remove spring and shock insert, fit new and then "Haynes it". Still only took about an hour each side, taking it easy.

That price was for Suplex springs and KYB shocks, they may have been NOS but i believe they're still available.

I've not remembered the thread yet they were in but i'll be surprised if you don't decide to do the front as well after doing the back.
