Yet Another Tailgate not opening Saga
I am new to the forum, and can see from others posts that non opening tailgates seem to be a common problem, but none of the other replies I have found seem to cover my situation. I have a 2007 V70, with key activated opening/locking. The tailgate will not open, but I can hear a clunk when I press either the remote, or the switch inside the car, so power seems to be getting to the lock. I have cut an access hole in the interior panel, and can see the locking module, but have no obvious access to the actual mechanism/lock. I have been advised by a Volvo engineer that the only way to get it unlocked is to smash the plastic module off, to get to the mechanical bits, but at nearly £300 for a new lock I am reluctant to go down that route if its not necessary.
I am particularly confused about the purpose of the exterior handle on the tailgate. Pulling it towards the rear of the car does not (and never has) opened the tailgate, but if the handle is not pushed fully forward it does seem to disable the key opening. What is its purpose if not to open the tailgate? or has it always been broken? Operating the handle does move a cable which does connect to the lock module. If the handle is supposed to open the tailgate I will try and remove it to investigate it further, but with the tailgate closed thats no easy task in itself.
Hope someone can help.
