TPMS questions
Hi All,
I have a Feb 2016 registered Volvo XC60 D5 It's currently running on 18" wheels. I want to get 21" polestar rims and tires. I am aware that I will need TPMS for the new tims. If I buy a set on eBay (cheapest I have found), will I need to take them to Volvo to pair or configure for my car? I don't want to reuse the TPMS in my current wheels as I might use them as winter wheels or something. With regards to tires, cheapest I have found are Black Circle tires with B rating compared to Pirelli with C ratings... I'm hoping Black Circle tires are good? It's nearly £100 cheaper than Pirelli! |

Black Circles will flog you the same tyres as you'd get buying direct from a tyre fitting place. You could ask before ordering as to manufacture date for peace of mind if you wish[there is a way of telling when the tyre was made by using the code on the tyre sidewall]

No programming required - the sensors pair with the car automatically once you've driven it for a short while... can't remember exactly... it's something like 5 minutes at 20mph or more I think

You have to program in the volvo sensors with their serial numbers and position ,There is a handheld Volvo tool for this purpose , how is the car going to determine which wheel thy are on otherwise ? Last time i bought a kit of 4 it was about £120 which is not too bad , much more economic than buying a singe sensor !

I stand corrected. My advice was based on my 09 C70 and 11 S60 which have the more primitive TPMS which lacks the capability of determining which wheel is the problem, and does not require sensor programming. Had overlooked that later models have the more advanced system.

I bought 4 x TPMS sensors from Ebay for my V60 Polestar ( for the winter wheels/ tyres). The seller offered to activate them. They work fine ( they are actually labelled as Jaguar/ Land Rover ones). Seller was styles_car
