Injector serial numbers?
Hi all
I have a bit of confussion about a injector ive removed from my s80 D5. Im after a new one but see so many for sale but got told even though they look the same they arent. What numbers need to be the same? Breakers told me any D5 injector will work but like i say. Got told different. Heres a picture of mine. Does 1,2,3 or 4 all need to be the same as my old one or is it a particular number i need to worry about and not the others? Thanks |

Item 1 in the picture is the class number (3) so that's what you ideally need to match.
If all your others are class 3, you can fit up to two class 2 in replacement but not class 1.

Ive quickly checked on the first 4 injectors which are on the car. They are all 1’s. The one ive taken out is a 3. So i take it that now changes things? Im guessing im after a 1 which matches the others or a 3 which ive just taken out?

Ideally you need number 1, but one 2 should work fine as far as I know.
I thought the class should only be one away from the majority so I’d suspect that number 3 injector is a replacement at some point. |

When i bought the car i know there was a few of injectors replaced so it makes me wonder if they were all 3’s at some point and changed to 1’s hence the 3 failing.

Basically, if you're changing up to 2 injectors, the class must be the same or different by a maximum of 1.
E.g. Class 1 is compatible with a class 1 and 2 system Class 2 is compatible with a class 1, 2 and 3 system Class 3 is compatible with a class 2 and 3 system Bizarrely, there is also a class 4 which is compatible with all systems. It's also important that the ECM is programmed to the same class of injectors that are fitted so if there's been a wholesale change of injector class previously you need to check using Dice and Vida what class the ECM is programmed to.
