Now I am reading this: https://www.media.volvocars.com/glob...king-animation. So maybe this is part of the City Safety and the level settings apply for all those individual safety features. Although, I cannot imagine why someone would want his/her car to react "late" with braking when there is another car going to hit me. My guess is that early-normal-late settings apply only to City Safety as we know it for years (without these new features).
Anyway, I would not worry much and for 90EUR it is a bargain for what it offers. I would get it without hesitation. If that situation happens, you would probably just freeze or hit brakes. Your car will behave better than you in such situation. The other day there was suddenly an overtaking car in front of me and my XC90 did not react because it was not necessary - I just applied brakes (but not full) and got that shocked feeling. At the end, nothing happened, we have all managed to avoid the collision. And this I felt like it was the maximum I would like to deal with when driving - so the car definitely does not react early to such situation and gives you the room to react as you assess the situation. (my City Safety settings is set to NORMAL)

I have this feature and I believe that you cannot turn it off.
Already tested it for a few times. When the system activates, it shows me in the headup display a big icon (either a car, a person, etc) in red and the car automatically brakes to a full stop. Sometimes it's even a bit violent but totally safe. I had this feature as standard from the intellisafe package. The trick whenever the system is activated and you dont want the car to brake to a full stop is to put slightly the foot on the brake and release it. That way it will turn the feature off for that incident.

Sounds like some scary testing!

I think the setting just adjusts when you get a visual and audible warning rather than how early or late the car applies brakes or steering assist.

Wife driving.
Maybe is City Safety as Duri13 said. I have the oncoming lane mitigation not the oncoming collision mitigation. I will ask my dealer if I can fit this as well on my Volvo.

Oncoming Mitigation by Braking is part of Intellsafe, not City Safety.
A reason to set this feature to "late" could be if it is found to be too agressive. This is what I felt was the case with another safety feature.

I did not find it too aggressive in that one situation when it could have been triggered. I started to panic before my car had a chance to intervene, so it is definitely not set to "early"

Sounds reassuring
I am inclined to have it installed. One incident can be enough to make the difference.

As I read it, Oncoming Mitigation by Braking only takes effect when a collision is unavoidable, which makes testing it rather dangerous and costly.
This is also a bit of a limitation if you aren't in Scandinavia: Quote:
