While I agree it is a bit of a con to charge extra for what should be standard extra selectable drive modes, I certainly don't agree that the standard tune is sub-optimal. All the modes are different and suit different driving styles and may be optimal at different times on a long journey. One of the issues with Polestar is that the original factory mapping is lost to the driver when Polestar is installed. In a way it is 'part exchanged' and if I were to offer an opinion I would say that they just swopped one set of programs for another and since neither is intrinsically worth more than the other, a £50 fitting charge is more than sufficient for having Polestar. If it were in addition to the original mapping, then I would have more sympathy with the £600 actual cost, but it isn't.

On its own merit, is it worth paying £600+ for? Of course not. But at least it may be seen as better 'value' than the obscene £3000 EXTRA on top of the existing standard fit sound system that they charge for the premium system. That is a travesty, yet some people are indeed happy to pay it, seemingly having little sense of the real value of money.

The way I rationalised the £600 I paid for Polestar happened by shear coincidence. I had it on the 14 day trial and had decided to have it removed at the end, as although it had a significant effect on the car, it wasn't an effect that I particularly needed and it didn't impress that much. Anyhow, on the last day, the Rolls Royce Cullinan was launched at around £250,000+ and what caught my eye was the option of a star constellation headlining in LED, with the choice of any actual constellation of the owner's choosing. Starting at £35,000 extra. At that point I thought….. blow it!

I think there is something similar in the S90 Excellence version?

Has anybody had this done to a XC90 T8. Would be interested to hear what they think of it. Before and after performance and MPG. Was it money well spent?
