Default Would you upgrade to a V40?

Now that the V40 has ended production (and prices are coming down) I wondered whether any C30/S40 owners have considered 'upgrading' to the hatchback?

I personally quite like the V40, however it seems that all variants of the T5 models are geartronic 8-speed automatic only (at least in the UK?), which is not something I'd want in a small hatchback.

However, it seems that you can snag yourself an boggo T2 6-speed manual (M66 gearbox), and install a BSR remap to take it from 122bhp, to an enormous 236bhp.

Bargain performance gain of the century? I think I'd be up for this once the V40 gets becomes REALLY cheap....Reminds me of the old 2.4i V70s that were software restricted to 140bhp....

Controls and interior are extremely dated for the year of car, even when new, everyone had nice iDrive systems or displays with intuitive controls - Volvo stuck with their propriety system, useless sat-nav and too many buttons.

That remap doesn't look right to me. Nowhere on the UK site can I see 236bhp from the T2. Only a stage one offering 199bhp?

I think the V40 is a bit meh.

Just kinda looks like all the other Euroboxes, a V60 Polestar on the other hand....

I have to say though that our S40/V50's are beginning to look dated now

The UK site is talking about the old 1.6-litre Ecoboost engines. The big gain is only with the 2.0-litre VEA engine. Seems the T2/T3 and T4 all boost to 236bhp based on their figures.

BSR are pretty hot with Volvo's... love their V70 2.5T project car, 410bhp.

I've driven one - a T2.. Didn't like the way the turbo felt to drive also the ceiling felt too low.

The interior colour choice of the one I drove too.. dark ceiling and dark carpets and seats made the whole interior feel horrible imo.

Drove a few as a courtesy car from the dealer when my s40 used to go in.

They are actually nice cars and I love the dark interior as well, only driven the smaller engine ones and they were absolutely hopeless but I'm sure the t5 would be a nice drive.

Still wouldn't get one though as style isn't to my liking, quite like compact saloons so it's sad there wont be anymore s40s. But audi have joined he compact saloons with the a4 saloon now which looks great

Nope. Some have reasonably nice trim outside and look 'OK', but not really sporty, and the distinctive rear of the C30 is still much nicer for me. And am I right in that they don't do a 5-pot turbo version of it? I went for the C30 as I like the looks of it and I didn't want 4 cylinders, so after the C30 the V40 won't be on the long or short list.

Early Pre-facelift cars were available with the 2.5-litre with 249bhp initially. Or if you went for a V40 Cross Country, you could have it with AWD with 254bhp.

Both cars are hard to find though, and are geartronic only.

I didn't know that... good power figures too! The geartronic is a deal breaker for me, but the looks just miss the mark for me too sadly
