Default Which Oil?

Evening All,

Need to give my S60 a service, wondered what oil is recommended? The manual (assuming its the original) states 0w-30? Car has done 197k miles now and wondered if that was slight thin - it doesn't seem to be burning/using any oil.

The car is Euro 3 (black engine cover).

Fuel Filter wise, is this a canister type by the fuel tank?

Sure these have been asked lots before, sorry, couldn't seem to work out the search function

Thanks,

your Well used engine won't have any mechanical differences to a fairly new one , if there were , it would have blown up by now :-) Just use what Volvo recommend .

0w30-5w40 A3/B4 as per handbook.
There are only 2 0w30 meeting spec on sale in uk, and one doesn't quite meet but is ok.
Best bet is 0w40 or the shell 5w40 as above. The shell is a very light 5w40 (it would be a 2.5w 35 if such a thing existed), all the others are quite heavy for an engine designed around 0w30.
The best 0w40 are Fuchs Titan Supersyn LongLife, Mobil FS, and Petronas Syntium 7000.
I use the fuchs and the engine runs lovely.
Si swears by the shell and Im not surprised, its a very good oil, and one I swear by myself. I use the 0w40 to maintain the cold flow.

Yup, that is the ONLY legit A3/B4 0w30 on sale in the uk (from a reputable company at least)

Thanks for all the input chaps. I ordered some oil today from a motor factors and just noticed they have given me 0w-30 which is A5/B5 not A3/B3/B4.

Likely to cause any problems or should I send back and reorder?

Thanks

It may not hurt but could do.
You are best using A3/B4

Some people think A5/B5 is better than/supercedes A3/B4 cos the numbers are higher, not the case, they are 2 seperate specs. If the factor tries telling you something along those lines, inform them they are not at all correct. If they argue (cos they dont want to refund etc) ask them to look up ACEA specs and read the bit that says A5/B5 must NOT be used in engines where it is not specified. 😉
