Driverless cars - legal implications

I can't wait to see the hacking implications. A good friend of mine, brain the size of a planet, told me about wireless lights controlled lighting systems, and how it was possible to daisy-chain from one system to any other in line of sight. It works because each bulb effectively functions as an ad-hoc network node, to save hundreds of wires going all over the house. Potentially, a hacker could get unlimited milage geographically, routing from one network to another.

Cars will undoubtedly be the same, to communicate with each other. Advance planning can streamline city traffic. Never wait at a red light again, because the technology has thought out a route, exact times and places pre-considered, collisions avoided before they even happen, one huge sprawling ad-hoc network just dying for some clever trickster to take advantage.

It'll happen. Remember the supposedly unhackable X-Box, the first generation of them, Microsoft driven? Hacked within hours of it's release, Linux installed and working. Within hours!

As with a driver operated car, if untraced the MIB compensates the injured, and the victim has to pay for repairs to his vehicle himself.
